The development goal is to improve braking performance compared to the original brake disc. EBC uses HPSR steel with a low carbon content, which has an 18% higher coefficient of friction. This steel is significantly more resistant to rust than cast steel. In addition, the entire surface is protected with a 3-micron thick zinc coating, which is abraded in the brake pad contact area during the initial break-in period. Only in this area can light flash rust form after prolonged periods of inactivity.
• The brake discs are drilled in a bird-wing design to achieve the best possible balance between minimal drilling and optimized cleaning of the brake disc from rainwater and brake dust. The fewer holes there are, the better the wet braking performance and the lower the wear.
