The development objective is to improve braking performance compared to the original brake disc. EBC uses HPSR steel with a low carbon content, which possesses an 18% higher coefficient of friction. This steel is significantly more resistant to rust than cast steel. In addition, the entire surface is protected by a 3-micron thick zinc coating, which wears away in the brake pad contact area during the initial bedding-in process. Minor surface rust may only form in this specific area during extended periods of inactivity.
• The brake discs are drilled in a bird-wing design to achieve optimal cleaning of the brake disc from rainwater and brake dust while using as few holes as possible. The fewer holes there are, the better the wet braking performance and the lower the wear.
